Meet My Pets: A Look at the Furry Family Behind FurrHaus
Every pet leaves a mark on our hearts. They’re not just animals; they’re family, companions, and the keepers of our best (and sometimes messiest) memories. Over the years, we’ve shared our home with some incredible pets—each with their own quirks, personalities, and stories that have shaped our lives.
So, let me introduce you to the furry souls who have been part of our journey.
Old Cat: The One Who Started It All
Some pets come into your life and change everything. That was Old Cat—our first fur baby. We adopted her as a tiny kitten from the Flagstaff Humane Society, and from day one, she was the sweetest, cuddliest, most adventurous cat.
She wasn’t always called Old Cat. Her name started as Kiki, then morphed into Kit Kat, and eventually, as the years passed, she simply became Old Cat—a name we loved and one that suited her perfectly.
She had a gentle soul but a bold spirit, always finding new spots to explore and never missing a morning walk around the backyard sidewalk. Even in her later years, she kept up her slow but determined routine, always warming herself in the same sunny spot.
At 21 years old, Old Cat left us last year, but she will always be part of our family. We miss her dearly and hold her close in our hearts, remembering her as the one who started our love for pets.
If you’ve ever had a senior cat, you know how deeply they impact your life. We loved capturing her personality through photos, a reminder of why pet photography for senior pets is so meaningful.
Chica: The Shy Soul Who Stole Our Hearts
Chica’s story began outside a Walmart in Guadalupe, where my husband's family found her—just a tiny puppy in a box, far too young to be separated from her mother. She was timid, nervous, and unsure of the world, but she became part of our family.
When we brought her to Flagstaff, it took her over a year to fully trust me. But once she did, she thrived—bounding through the forests, leaping in the snow, and becoming a true Northern Arizona dog.
When we moved back to Phoenix, she came with us, witnessing every big life milestone—our marriage, buying our first home, and having our first baby. She was deeply loved, but never quite trusted the camera. I swear she thought it would steal her soul. Still, we managed to capture a few photos of her, ensuring we could always remember her.
Losing Chica was one of the hardest things I’ve ever experienced. It was my first time losing a dog, and nothing prepares you for that kind of grief.
Chica’s transformation from a timid rescue dog to a confident explorer in Flagstaff is a testament to the resilience of adopted pets. If you’ve ever considered adopting a rescue dog in Arizona, know that patience and love make all the difference.
Lola: The Sweetest Soul
A year after our second child was born, we met Lola, our pit mix who needed a home. If you had seen where she came from, you’d call it a rescue, too. She has always been the sweetest, most loving dog, offering comfort and companionship from day one.
Now at 13 years old, Lola is slowing down, but she still enjoys her favorite routines—lounging in the sun, getting belly rubs, and enjoying the quiet moments.
Lola, our senior pit mix, may be slowing down, but she’s still full of love. If you have a senior dog, you know the importance of capturing their golden years in pet portraits to cherish forever.
Lucy: The Energy Booster
A few years ago, Lola got a surprise—a younger sister who was the exact opposite of her calm personality. Lucy, our Australian Cattle Dog and Miniature Pinscher mix, entered our lives with boundless energy.
She immediately perked up Lola’s spirits, bringing a new spark of playfulness into our home. They are inseparable—either chasing each other around the yard or curled up together in my husband’s home office, napping while he works.
Lucy, our high-energy Australian Cattle Dog mix, reminds us why active dog breeds need playtime and companionship. She keeps our household lively, proving that even senior dogs like Lola can regain their youthful spirit.
And Then Came the Cats…
As if life wasn’t lively enough, we recently welcomed two cat sisters, Lilly and Harley. But that’s a whole other blog post waiting to be told.
